Summary:
During the last years, combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants have proliferate to cover electricity demand. Nevertheless, gas system infrastructure has not expanded as desirable to avoid gas system constraints. Electricity generation companies sign gas contracts to supply their CCGT power plants. The optimization in the medium term, from several months to few years, of the gas contract exertion subject to gas system constraints is essential to maximize the companies’ profit. With this end in mind, a methodology to include gas contracts and gas system constraints in an equilibrium electricity market model is proposed. A study case illustrates the methodology. Finally, conclusions and future research guidelines are indicated.
